  • Burfoot steps down after successful return to sideline

    After rejoining his former team midseason in time to lead the Lynx to an NECC first place finish, Jim Burfoot stepped down as Lesley women's basketball coach. The Lynx went 14-5 under Burfoot last season. Assistant coach Julianna Eagles will remain on the Lynx staff.

    For a third consecutive year, Lesley University's women's athletics teams captured the NECC's Champion's Cup, the league's sport-wide winnings leader board. Three of Lesley's six women's teams won NECC titles, with two more making the NECC championship game.
  • Wechsler first NECC player sent to NEWBA Senior Classic

    After leading the NECC in scoring and becoming the Lynx all-time leading scorer, Lesley senior Kaitlyn Wechsler has become the first NECC player ever selected to the NEWBA Senior Classic, and annual all-star game that rounds up the region's finest seniors.

    After clinching a first place finish in the New England Collegiate Conference in Saturday night's 62-49 win over Daniel Webster, Lesley has won the rights to host the NECC Tournament. Having secured a first round bye, Lesley's first game will be in the semifinal round on Friday at 6 p.m. vs. Becker.

    Rachael O'Mara scored a career-high 32 points, helping Lesley open a 40-20 halftime lead as the Lynx knocked off Little East Conference foe Plymouth State Thursday night. Kaitlyn Wechsler added 13 points and 13 rebounds as Lesley won a third straight.
  • Defense propels big win over Wheelock, 54-36

    Lesley forced 29 Wildcats turnovers and held Wheelock under 24 percent shooting and under 40 points for the second time this season in a 54-36 Lynx win Tuesday. Kaitlyn Wechsler became the second Lynx player to score 1,400 career points, and Brianne Caira totaled team highs of eight rebounds, six blocks and five assists.

  • Lynx join fight against breast cancer with Pink Zone game

    Lesley women's basketball and cheerleading will be teaming up in hosting Saturday's "Pink Zone" game, raising money to benefit the WBCA/Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Raffles will be held and donations accepted with all proceeds benefiting breast cancer research. Fans are encouraged to wear pink in honor of breast cancer awareness.

    Lesley lost a third straight NECC game by two of fewer points, this one at first-place Daniel Webster, 55-54 Thursday night. Brianne Caira and Cassidy Freed each tallied double-doubles for the Lynx, and Kaitlyn Wechsler led all scorers with 18 points.

    Senior Rachael O'Mara poured in a game-high 23 points, 14 coming in the Lynx second-half comeback attempt that fell just short at Mitchell. The Mariners turned 22 Lynx turnovers into 17 points, fending off a fervent Lesley comeback attempt in a 66-64 last-second victory Tuesday night.

    Kaitlyn Wechsler scored 21 points on 9-11 shooting, and three other seniors turned in nearly identical double-doubles in the Lynx win over Mitchell, 62-50 Monday night. Brianne Caira posted 11 points and 12 rebounds, and Cassidy Freed and Rachael O’Mara each turned in 11 points and 11 rebounds as Lesley topped the Mariners to stay in first place at 7-0.

Brianne Caira recorded her fourth double-double in five games with 10 points, 13 rebounds and three blocks, winning the battle between the nation's leading shot blocker and the nation's rebounder, Newbury's Catharine O'Connell.
