Wechsler named All-NECC 1st Team; Caira, O'Mara to 2nd

ATTLEBORO, MA -- Lesley forward Kaitlyn Wechsler was named to the All-New England Collegiate Conference First Team, the league announced this afternoon. Fellow seniors Brianne Caira and Rachael O'Mara made All-NECC Second Team.

After leading the NECC in scoring by almost two points at 17.9 per game, Wechsler capped her storied career by becoming Lesley's all-time leading scorer in Saturday's NECC championship, ending her career with 1,471 points. She finished second in the league with a .482 field goal percentage, third in minutes per game at 35.8, fifth in free throw percentage at .691 and tenth with 2.4 offensive rebounds per game.

An All-NECC Tournament Team selection, Wechsler was an All-NECC Second Team honoree each of the last two seasons and an All-North Atlantic Conference Honorable Mention selection as a freshman.

In a season in which she joined the Lynx 1,000-point club and became the school's all-time leading scorer, Wechsler's 33 points in a January 27 win at Rivier tied the program's single-game record.

Fellow 2011 All-NECC Tournament Team pick Rachael O'Mara was named All-NECC Second Team after a scorching finish to her Lynx career that landed her with Wechsler among the league's leading scorers. She scored 30 or more points in three of her last four games, finishing fourth in the league with 15.2 points per game. The league's leading three-point threat at 40 percent, she finished third in field goal percentage at .451 and third in free throw percentage at .732.

O'Mara's career high of 32 points came in a February 17 win over Johnson State, and she tied the Lynx single-game record with eight steals on January 22 at Mitchell.

As dominant as Wechsler and O'Mara were with the ball in their hands, Caira was so on the defensive end. The league's leading shot blocker with 97 rejections, good for a NECC-best 3.6 per game, the 6-foot-1 pivot ranked among the Top 10 nationally. She ranked third on the team with 11.2 points per game and led the Lynx with 10.4 rebounds per game. The conference's fourth-leading rebounder, Caira was one of four players in the leage to average a double-double.

Seniors Wechsler, O'Mara and Caira combined to account for over 78 percent of Lesley's offense.
