First place Lynx move to 6-0 with 66-55 win at Becker

WORCESTER, MA -- Rachael O'Mara poured in a career-high 23 points and tied a Lesley record with eight steals, and Kaitlyn Wechsler added 17 as the first place Lynx improved to 6-0 in New England Collegiate Conference women's basketball play, 66-55 over Becker.

Four straight points from Wechsler got the Lynx out to a 4-0 lead before O'Mara's first three-pointer of the night put Lesley on top 7-2. The Hawks answered with a 7-2 run of their own to take their only lead of the half, 20-18, on a Tatiana Mojica three-point play midway through the period.

An O'Mara layup started an 8-0 run that put the Lynx up 26-20 inside the 8:00 mark, and her free throw with 3:14 left put Lesley back ahead by six, 33-27. A Caira layup in the closing seconds of the half sent Jim Burfoot's team into the locker room with a 35-27 lead.

Reigning NECC Rookie of the Week Haley Ooms came to life for Becker coming out of the intermission, hitting a three-pointer that commenced a 14-1 run to give Becker its largest lead of the game, 43-38 with 14:42 remaining.

A Nicole Morse jumper put the Hawks back up by five with 9:33 left, but it was all Lesley from there, as the Lynx outscored Becker 22-6 from that point on.

Just as she did last game against Newbury, O'Mara took over in the second. In what started as a 7-0 run, O'Mara scored five of the seven, including a trifecta that tied the game 51-51. Her layup a minute later tied the game at 53, and the forward's jumper at the 6:15 mark put the Lynx up 55-53 and ahead for the long haul.

Center Brianne Caira fell just short in her quest for five double-doubles in six games with nine points and eight rebounds, but chipped in with seven assists in one of her most well-rounded efforts of the year. Fellow senior Cassidy Freed added 10 points, six rebounds, five assists and three steals as the Lynx pulled to within a game of .500 on the season at 6-7, staying perfect at 6-0 in league play.

Mojica led Becker with a double-double of 16 points and 10 rebounds as the Hawks fell to 3-12 and 1-6 in conference play.

Winners of four in a row, Lesley plays host to Mitchell, one game back of first place at 5-1 in league play, Monday night at 8.
