Lynx join fight against breast cancer with Pink Zone game

CAMBRIDGE, MA -- Lesley women's basketball and cheerleading teams will be partnering in hosting Saturday's "Pink Zone" game, raising money to benefit the WBCA/Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

Raffles will be held at the door prior to and during Saturday's 6:00 p.m. contest against Bay Path College. Donations will also be accepted with all proceeds benefiting breast cancer research, and a commemorative Pink Zone card will be on hand for fans to sign in remembering those stricken with cancer.

In 2007, the Women’s Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA) began the Pink Zone in hopes of raising cancer awareness around women’s basketball. Former North Carolina State women’s basketball head coach Kay Yow, the face of Pink Zone, passed away in January 2009 after her third episode of Breast Cancer.

Today, the WBCA Pink Zone has raised almost $3.3 million, has had almost 3 million fans, and has had  over 4,700 teams from all sports participate over its four years. All donations from today’s Pink Zone game are given to the WBCA/ Kay Yow Cancer Fund, the Pink Zone charity of choice.

Fans are encouraged to wear pink in honor of breast cancer awareness. Players will also be wearing pink warm-up shirts and accessories.
