O'Mara named NECC Player of the Week

ATTLEBORO, MA --Following consecutive 30-plus-point outbursts, Lesley's Rachael O'Mara has been named NECC Women's Basketball Player of the Week.

Nobody in the New England Collegiate Conference has been hotter than O'Mara, as the senior capped Lesley's four-game winning streak with back-to-back 30-point outings. The small forward sparked a 14-0 first half run that led to a 40-20 halftime advantage in her team's triumph over Little East foe Plymouth State on Thursday night in Cambridge. Her effort landed her within a point of Lesley's single-game scoring mark, finishing the night with 32 points.

On senior night two days later, she nailed two clutch second-half three-pointers to ignite an 11-0 run as Lesley locked up first place in the NECC, pouring in 30 points in the Lynx 62-49 win over Daniel Webster. Playing all 40 minutes, she shot 4-5 from three-point range, 8-10 from the free throw stripe and adding 10 rebounds to complete her third double-double of the season.

With a 12-point, five-assist, three-rebound performance on Tuesday in a win over Wheelock, O'Mara averaged 24.7 points, 6.7 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 1.7 steals per game. For the week, she shot 47 percent (27-for-57) from the field, including a scorching 65 percent (9-for-14) from the arc.

O'Mara and the Lynx will keep and eye on Tuesday's NECC quarterfinal round game between Becker and Newbury, playing the winner on Friday at 6 p.m. in NECC semifinal action at Eastern Nazarene College's Lahue PE Center.
