SOUTH HADLEY, MA -- Only select players can say they reached 1,000 career points, carried their team to a first-place finish and league championship game, or became their program's all-time leading scorer.

Kaitlyn Wechsler did all of the above. This season.

As a result, the forward has been selected to the 2011 NEWBA Senior All-Star Classic, what she calls "the perfect way to end [her] senior year."

The New England Women's Basketball Association Senior All-Star Classic collects the region's finest senior basketball players for one game, with this year's being held on Saturday, March 26 at 1:00 p.m. at Western New England College in Springfield, MA.

"I am honored to be selected to the NEWBA Senior All-Star Classic," she said. "It is such a special opportunity to have the chance to play with the best seniors in the region."

Wechsler, an All-New England Collegiate Conference First Team selection, becomes the first player in NECC history to play in the NEWBA Senior Classic, a distinction she'll share with Daniel Webster's Alyssa Regan.

Coming off one of the most memorable seasons in all of New England, the 5-10 combo forward scored career point No. 1,000 in the Lynx season opener and set Lesley's all-time scoring record in the NECC Championship with 1,471 career points. This year's NECC scoring leader by almost two points at 17.9 per game, she either tied or set Lynx single-game and season scoring marks with 33 points in a win at Rivier and 483 in the Lynx 16-11 season.

"My Lesley career has come to an end, but this game gives me the chance to wrap up what has been an amazing, memorable and unforgettable four years," she said.

A top 50 scorer nationally, Wechsler finished sixth in all of New England in scoring and second among Senior Classic participants, edged out by Western Connecticut State's Melissa Teel at 18.2.

In addition to leading the NECC in scoring, she did so efficiently and consistently, finishing second in both field goal percentage (.482) and minutes per game (35.9). Some of Wechsler's finest performances came against Lesley's stiffest competition, including Bowdoin (18 points), Colby-Sawyer (18 pts), Simmons (20 pts), Rivier (33 pts, 7 rebounds), Plymouth State (13 pts, 13 reb,) and Daniel Webster (22 pts).

"I am greatful that I have been given the opportunity to play in one last game as a collegiate athlete," Wechsler said. "It really is the 'cherry on top' of my career, and I am truly looking forward to March 26 when I get to step on the court again."
