Women's teams win third straight NECC Champions Cup

CAMBRIDGE, MA -- For a third consecutive year, Lesley University's women's athletics teams captured the New England Collegiate Conference Champion's Cup, the league's sport-wide winnings leader board.

Three of Lesley's six women's teams - cross country, volleyball and softball - won NECC titles, with basketball and soccer both finishing in first place and making the NECC championship game. The Lynx women's teams totaled 67 of a possible 72 points, by far the highest in the league.

Lesley's women's cross country team won a third straight NECC title, volleyball won its first championship in going to the program's first NCAA Tournament, and softball also won its third straight conference title in making its second NCAA Tournament. Cross country sophomore Noa Kupfer, volleyball sophomore Amanda McCracken and softball freshman Jenn Dorval were all named NECC Player of the Year for their respective sports.

On the men's side, Elms College won the Champions Cup with 33 of 49 points, edging out Daniel Webster, which totaled 32 points. The Lynx men's teams finished in sixth place.

Founded in 2008, the NECC consists of nine institutions, spans four states and will welcome its tenth institution, Regis College, for the 2011-12 academic year.
