• Sarah Wilson named Lesley's Athlete of the Year

    CAMBRIDGE, MA – Sarah Wilson (Lowell, MA) was named the 2005-2006 Lesley University Athlete of the Year. Wilson, a freshman, was a two sport athlete during the 2005-2006 academic year, playing both soccer and softball. Wilson was brought on to the soccer team as backup goalie for star junior Sarah Wedge and despite seeing limited time in the field Wilson was the fourth leading scorer on the team.

    Chicopee, MA – Lesley University did something to NAC Player of the Year Kristi Guzzo that no other NAC team had done this year, score more than two runs. The number four seeded Lady Lynx gave a serious scare to the number one seeded and NAC Championships favorites Elms College in the first game of the day.

    CHICOPEE, MA – With the sun beating and the heat beating them down the Lady Lynx took the field for the second time of what was already a very long day and for the second time lost to the higher seed by two runs. Castleton State College, the number three seed, was able to get a fifth inning homerun from First Team All-Conference honoree Jen Gadouas as they went on to win 3-1.

    NEWTON, MA – Carried by the right arm of Maureen Mikos (Fairfield, CT) Lesley University upset the #1 seed in the East, Lasell College, to advance to the NAC Championships, to be held at Elms College. Mikos threw a complete game seven hitter helping to lead her team to a 5-1 victory.

    Elms College senior Kristi Guzzo earned accolades as the North Atlantic Conference Softball Player of the Year in a vote by the conference coaches. Guzzo recorded a 0.48 ERA during 11 divisional appearances posting a perfect 10-0 mark. In 58 innings of work, Guzzo allowed just four earned runs while striking out 68 batters. At the plate, the senior hit .333 with 8 RBI and 18 runs scored.

    LEICESTER, MA – Lesley University got four runs in the top of the eighth inning on its way to a 10-6 win against Becker College. The win is historically huge for Lesley University because it is the first time in Lesley’s softball programs’ history that they defeated Becker College.

    FT. MYERS, FL – Lesley University blew a three run lead as Salem State College had a four run seventh inning on its way to a 7-3 victory.

    FT. MYERS, FL – Lesley University collapsed in the top of the sixth, allowing 9 runs to Transylvania University, as they lost the game 16-1. The one bright spot for the Lynx came in the bottom of the sixth. Trailing 16-0 it would have been very easy for the Lynx to just give up make three quick outs and have the game be over. Instead Sarah Wilson (Lowell, MA) led off the bottom of the sixth with a solo homerun, her first of the spring.

    FT. MYERS, FL – Amy Breen (Holbrook, MA) pitched a complete game against Umass Boston as Lesley University won 7-2. The win is the first of the year for the Lady Lynx as they improve to 1-1 on the year.

    FT. MYERS, FL – Lesley University managed to get only four hits as Medaille College overpowered the Lynx and handed them an 8-0 loss. Lesley was coming fresh off an extra-innings thriller in which they beat Wilmington College 4-3 and the Lynx seemed to be drained against Medaille.

    FT. MYERS, FL – Cazenovia college ended a 1-1 tie with a four run fourth inning en route to a 9-4 win against Lesley University. The Lynx looked good early but the Cazenovia bats caught up with Christina Anzilotti (Pelham, NY) in the third inning.
