FT. MYERS, FL – Sarah Wilson (Lowell, MA) delivered what may be one of her biggest hits of the year; a one out, two RBI, game winning hit coming in the bottom of the eighth inning against Wilmington College (Ohio).

Wilmington and Lesley entered the eighth inning knotted at 2. Due to the tie breaker rule in softball each team started the eighth inning with a runner on second base. With some clever strategy and good base-running Wilmington capitalized on the situation taking a 3-2 lead, entering the bottom of the eight.

Katie Wilson (Kittery, ME), who ended the seventh inning, started on second for the Lynx. Lani Cabral-Pini (Wilmington, MA) advanced Wilson and reached first on an error on Wilmington’s pitcher. Wilson was then thrown out at home on a single by Courtnie Leakeas (Lowell, MA). Gianna Spaziante then came to the plate and reached on a fielder’s choice. That set the stage for Wilson who landed the final blow.

The Lynx were carried to that point by outstanding pitching and fielding. Christina Anzilotti (Petham, MA) started for the Lynx and went 4.1 innings, giving up two hits, two earned runs, walking one and striking out one. Maureen Mikos carried the Lynx the rest of the way and grabbing the win. Mikos went 3.2 innings, giving up two hits, one run (unearned), walking one and striking out four.

Leakeas who scored the winning run for the Lynx was also their biggest contributor at the plate. She went 3-4 and scored 3 runs. Maureen Mikos went 1-3 and drove in the only other RBI besides Wilson’s two.

The Lynx finish up in Ft. Myers, FL on Thursday, March 16th before returning back to Cambridge. For more information on the Lesley University softball team please go to their website.
