FARMINGTON, ME – Lesley University was held scoreless by a solid defensive effort by the University of Maine at Farmington in the first of two games on Sunday. Farmington committed no errors in the first game as they went on to defeat the Lynx 8-0.

Despite the eight runs Lesley got a strong pitching performance from Christina Anzilotti (Pelham, NY). Anzilotti pitched four and two thirds innings, giving up three earned runs on eleven hits while striking out three and walking zero.

Farmington’s flawless defense and consistent pitching held Lesley to just three hits for the entire game. Sarah Wilson (Lowell, MA) went 2-2 from the plate and Maureen Mikos (Fairfield, CT) went 1-2 from the plate for the Lynx.

The game was in hand for the Lynx until the fifth inning. Going into the fifth the Lynx trailed 3-0. Farmington held Lesley scoreless in the top of the fifth and then they exploded for five runs in the bottom of the fifth, ending the game. A costly error by the Lynx with two outs in the fifth opened up the flood gates for the five runs by Farmington.

The Lynx go for the split next against Farmington.

Lesley had a last minute serge against Farmington, however it was too little to late as the Lynx dropped the finale of the double-header 2-6.

Farmington led Lesley University 6-0 in the top of the seventh inning. After a sacrifice bunt by Lisa Pina (Somerville, MA) Lesley had runners on second and third. However, with two outs it looked like it would be too little to late. Christina Anzilotti (Pelham, MA) was sent to the plate as a pinch hitter, this was her first at bat of the year.

Anzilotti ripped a single down the line with scored Maureen Mikos (Fairfield, CT) and Amy Breen (Holbrook, MA). Lani Cabral-Pini then stepped to the plate and hit an absolute blast that turned into a double. It seemed that Lesley may be able to mount a comeback however on the play a base running error caused the inning to end unexpectedly and Farmington grabbed the 6-2 victory for the sweep.
