CAMBRIDGE, MA -- After going undefeated in league play through the regular season, women's soccer prepares to host the New England Collegiate Conference Tournament for a second straight year.
With the No. 1 seed, Lesley secured the tournament's only first round bye and will take on No. 4 Becker in semifinals action on Thursday at 8:15 p.m. On Sunday, the Lynx shut down Newbury, 2-0, behind a pair of Veronica Halen goals on senior day in Cambridge.
Becker, meanwhile, topped No. 5 Newbury, 1-0 in overtime Tuesday night.
At 13-3-1 overall and 9-0 in NECC play, Lesley enters on an 11-game undefeated streak that dates back six weeks to an 8-0 September 19 win at Anna Maria. Lesley brings the league's best offense into the tournament at 5.8 goals per game in NECC play, and the Lynx are easily the owners of the league best defense, one that allowed only a single goal in conference play. Over nine NECC contests (including a 1-0 forfeit win at Southern Vermont), Lesley has outscored opponents 52-1.
Should Lesley win its semifinals matchup, the Lynx will advance to the NECC Championship for a fourth consecutive year on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Edward Field. Lesley is 1-1-1 with a penalty kick loss in its three championship appearances, including last year's 2-1 title game loss to Mitchell.
