CAMBRIDGE, MA – Lesley University dropped to 0-4 with a 57-21 loss to Eastern Nazarene College in non-conference women's basketball action Tuesday night at the Nicholas Athletics Center.
Five Eastern Nazarene players hauled in five or more rebounds as the Lions outrebounded Lesley 54-32 in getting back to the .500 mark at 2-2.
The Lions used a 13-2 first half run spanning over nine minutes capped by a Kori Sorensen (Quincy, MA/Quincy) three-pointer to open up a 25-6 lead with 2:40 remaining in the half. Carrie Fieger (Simsbury, CT/Suffield Academy) snapped the run and answered Sorensen's three with a triple of her own, her first as a Lynx.
Ace Carradine (Honolulu, HI/Radford) then matched Fieger with a trey that started a 7-0 run to close the half, sending Eastern Nazarene into halftime with a 35-9 lead.
After scoring the final seven points of the first half, six different Lions combined to score nine of the first 11 second half points, opening up a 41-11 lead at the 13:00 mark and coasting the remainder of the way.
Lions forward Shardae Brown (Waterbury, CT/Sacred Heart) led all players with 12 points, hitting an efficient 8-10 at the charity stripe. Alexis Malloy (Washington, CD/Eleanor Roosevelt) followed with 11 on 5-10 shooting from the floor to go along with two blocks as Eastern evened its record at 2-2.
Carraadine and Abbie Tonello (Plymouth, MA/New Testament) led the Lions rebounding efforts with eight each.
In her first career start at point guard, Lesley's Sarah Apgar (Andover, NJ/Lenape Valley) scored a team-high 10 points, tying teammate Katherine Bradley (Colchester, CT/Bacon Academy) with a game-best four steals. A game after pulling down 15 rebounds on Sunday, Chelsea Contre (Pomfret, CT/Woodstock) led all players with nine before fouling out in the final minute.
Lesley takes two weeks off before returning to the hardwood on December 6 in New England Collegiate Conference play against visiting Newbury College. Eastern Nazarene takes on Framingham State a week from tonight on November 29.
