Late rally lifts Lynx, 8-5 at Mitchell

NORWICH, CT -- A Ryan McQuade RBI single snapped a 5-5 tie in the eighth, and an Aqib Shah double added two more in Lesley's 8-5 win at Mitchell Wednesday evening in New England Collegiate Conference baseball action at Dodd Memorial Stadium.

Freshman Adam Ciampi went 2-for-4, putting the Lynx on the board with a two run single in the second, and getting the start in left field, junior Patrick Melo went 1-for-3 and scored twice as Lesley picked up its fourth league win.

Sophomore starter Jeff Landry picked up his third win of the year, going seven innings and allowing nine hits, five earned runs and striking out four. Senior Noah Shaw came in and worked a scoreless eighth for his second save.

Ciampi's two-run single started the scoring in what became a five-run second inning. A Mariners error three batters later allowed Ciampi to score from third, and with the bases loaded three batters after that, Shah walked to make it a 4-0 game. A wild pitch later scored Robert Parson, and Lesley milked its 5-0 cushion until its three-run rally in the eighth.

Mitchell's Ethan Graynor singled up the middle to make it a 5-2 game in the fifth. Later in the frame, a Tyler Shultis sacrifice followed by a suicide squeeze from Tommy Derosier scored Graynor to make it a 5-4 game after five.

Graynor was hit by a pitch to lead off the seventh and pinch runner Lucas Mariani came around to score on an inning-ending double play to tie the game going into the eighth, when Ciampi, Shah and the Lynx responded with three to take the lead for good.

Shaw retired the first two Mariners he faced in the eighth before a pair of singles brought the tying run to the plate with two outs, but Will Charkowsky lined to Melo in left to end it.

Now 8-23 and 4-11 in NECC play, Lesley enters its final series of the season at Becker College Saturday at noon in Leicester, MA.
