Lynx split with Nighthawks after 6-5 win in nightcap

WATERTOWN, MA -- NECC Rookie of the Week Tyler Plourd went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI as Lesley held on for a 6-5 win over Newbury and earned a split in Saturday's doubleheader, snapping the Lynx eight-game slide and giving Lesley its first New England Collegiate Conference win in program history.

Plourd gave the Lynx the lead with an RBI double in the top of the first that scored shortstop Aqib Shah. Trailing 3-1 in the fourth, Plourd's RBI single scored David Hersey in the team's four-run rally that gave the team the lead for good.

With the Lynx leading 6-4 in the bottom of the seventh, senior Noah Shaw relieved starter Greg Anglin to allow a Patrick Cheleat double that plated Alex Covner. With the tying run in scoring position, Shaw induced a groundout and struckout Stephen Broy to lock up his first career save.

Anglin earned his first career win, going 6 and 1/3  innings, allowing four earned runs and striking out four.

Freshman Adam Ciampi went 2-for-3 with two driving in for the Lynx.

Game 1 starter Jeff Landry settled down after a rocky start that saw the sophomore allow four runs over the first three frames, but he settled down to go the distance. Pinch hitter Ryan Genua plated Andrew Colon in the seventh, but the Lynx couldn't bring the tying run to the plate, as starting pitcher Christophen Ninteau retired Robert Parson for the first time all day to end the game.

Parson led the Lynx offense, going 2-for-3 with a run scored.

The teams play the rubber match Sunday morning at 9 a.m. at Trum Field in Somerville.
