Lynx take early advantage, can't avoid another Scots comeback

WENHAM, MA -- For the second time in a week, Lesley took an early lead on Gordon College, but the Fighting Scots again chipped away in overcoming the Lynx 7-4 Wednesday afternoon.

Junior Greg Anglin made the most of his first start in the outfield of 2012 by going 2-for-4, and catcher Jeff Gonzalez went 1-for-2, driving in the go-ahead run with an RBI double in the Lynx four-run third.

Gordon got on the board first compliments of an RBI double by Brian Harrington, who later came around to score to put the Scots ahead 2-0 after two.

Two innings later, the Lynx took advantage of two Gordon errors to take a 4-2 lead. Ryan McQuade's RBI ground out scored Robert Parson, and leadoff hitter Ray Cohen scored to tie the game on an Aqib Shah grounder misplayed by Gordon shortstop John Brownell.

Lesley added two more in the inning on Gonzalez's double that scored Shah, then a two-out error by second baseman Carlos Pichardo put the Lynx on top 4-2 in the third.

Gordon's Dillon Coleman singled and scored on a Harrington RBI groundout in the fifth, and Pichardo attoned for his error with a game-tying solo homer off of Lynx starting pitcher Cohen in the sixth.

Two innings later, with Peter Plansky on in relief, Harrington and Erik Wolak came across on a two-run Geoff Brown single that gave the Scots the lead for good at 6-4. The hosts added another in the eighth on a Coleman sac fly to right that scored Brownell, and the Lynx went down in order in the ninth, falling 7-4.

Plansky took the loss, allowing three earned runs in 2 and 1/3 innings, striking out two. In his 5 and 2/3 innings, Cohen allowed three earned runs (four total), scattering six hits, striking out five but walking four.

The win marks Gordon's second comeback over the Lynx in under a week, as the Scots held on for a 12-11 come-from-behind win over Lesley in Florida on Friday.

Lesley returns to the field with a doubleheader at Newbury College on Saturday starting at 4 p.m. at Victory Field in Watertown, MA.
