THE LEAD – Top-seeded Lesley University picked up a 7-2 win vs. No. 4 Thomas College in the 2024 North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Women's Tennis postseason tournament on Saturday afternoon at the Apex Racket Club.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Lynx picked up wins at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles to take a 2-1 lead into singles action.
  • Junior Jessica Legendre (Leesville, La.) and graduate student Caroline Champa (Boston, Mass.) cruised in top doubles play, 8-1 while sophomores Mary Osucha (Knoxville, Tenn.) and Lucy Boyce (Marshfield, Mass.) also posted an 8-1 win in second doubles.
  • Osucha continued her stellar play at the top of the lineup coasting in No. 1 singles to a 6-0, 6-0 win while Legendre and Champa also made quick work of their matches in the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, respectively. Legendre earned a 6-2, 6-1 win while Champa tabbed a 6-0, 6-3 decision to seal the match.
  • Boyce also secured a dominant performance in fourth singles with a 6-2, 6-1 victory.
  • The most competitive match of the day was in No. 5 singles as Anna Stamp (Belchertown, Mass.) battled in a tight match vs. Tracy Lopez (Los Angeles, Calif.). Stamp, who missed the early season meeting between the two programs helped solidify the fifth singles spot with an impressive 6-4, 7-5 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Osucha, Legendre finished the regular-season with a combined 14-0 record vs. NAC opponents in singles play and move to 17-0 following the semifinal victory
  • Maya Gammon (Lincoln, Maine) and Lopez teamed up for the No. 3 doubles win for Thomas while Gammon also picked up the win in sixth singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 sweep to pace the Terriers.
  • The Lynx advance to a conference championship match for the seventh time in program history and second consecutive season in the NAC.

  • Lesley will face Husson University in the 2024 NAC Women's Tennis Championship match tomorrow, Sunday, October 13 at 1:00 PM at the Apex Racket Club. The No. 2 Eagles downed No. 3 SUNY Delhi in the other semifinal slate, 8-1.
