CAMBRIDGE, Mass. (Oct. 11, 2024) - The No.1 seeded Lesley women's tennis team (6-3, 5-0 NAC) takes on No.4 seeded Thomas College (4-7, 2-3 NAC) in the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) semifinals round on Saturday, October 12 at Apex Racket and Fitness Center in Portland, Maine at 2:00 PM.
Five Things To Know
- Lesley enters as the No.1 seed for the first time in program history after earning the No.2 seed in last year's tournament.
- The Lynx will be aiming to earn the program's first-ever conference championship.
- The squad's perfect 5-0 conference record marked the first time in program history that Lesley women's tennis finished its regular season with a perfect record.
- Earlier this year, Lesley beat Thomas in their only regular season match by a score of 5-4 on Sunday, September 8.
- Saturday will mark the seventh time the programs have met, with Lesley holding the overall edge, 4-2.
Who To Watch For
- Lesley's play is highlighted by Caroline Champa (Boston, Mass.), who finished the year with a perfect combined 9-0 record in singles (six wins) and doubles (three wins) action. Champa will be relied on heavily during Saturday's matchup. In her last bout against Thomas, Champa won her singles match, 6-0, 6-3 at the No. 3 spot.
- Other key student-athletes for the Lynx include two-time NAC Player of the Week Jessica Legendre (Leesville, La.) and fellow NAC Player of the Week Mary Osucha (Knoxville, Tenn.). They each finished 10-1 in singles play this year, with their only setbacks coming in last week's non-conference season finale versus Simmons. In doubles, Legendre and Osucha both finished 9-2.
- The Terriers' squad is led by NAC Player of the Week Libby Forgues. Forgues was a key factor in Thomas' singles matches this year, as the junior notched three victories, and in doubles, she also grabbed three wins.
- Two-time NAC Rookie of the Week Taylor Juhase will also be looked upon greatly in Saturday's matchup. The freshman was great for the Terriers in singles action, posting a 5-2 record that featured a five-match win streak. On the doubles side, she helped Thomas earn three wins.
