CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Four Lesley University women's soccer student-athletes - midfielder Zoe Curtaz (Novato, Calif.), defender Isabella Danna (Miami, Fla.), forward Abby Kalou (Chicago, Ill.), and defender Rachel Weinzimer (Woodland Hills, Calif.) were named to the College Sports Communicators (CSC) Academic All-District® Team, as announced by the organization.
Curtaz, Danna, and Kalou will also appear on the ballot for the CSC All-America Team, which will be announced later this year.
To be eligible, nominated student-athletes must be a starter or important reserve with a minimum 3.50 cumulative grade-point average (GPA) in their second year at the current institution and must have played in at least 50 percent of the team's games.
A junior Political Science/Global Studies major with a 3.98 GPA, Curtaz is also a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) Academic Conference honoree and this year's CSC Academic All-District selection is the first of her career. On the pitch, Curtaz had a solid year for the Lynx. She set career highs in multiple categories, including games played (20), games started (16), goals (six), assists (five), points (17), and shots (31). In nine contests this year, Curtaz recorded at least one point, and in those games, Lesley was 6-1-2. Curtaz had a stretch where she finished with multiple points in three straight games, and in those games, Lesley was a perfect 3-0-0. With such a strong season, she earned NAC East Division All-Confernece First Team honors.
Danna was NAC Academic All-Conference representative last year, and she was also named a first-time NAC East Division All-Conference First Team honoree this season. She carries a 3.73 GPA in Business Management, and for the Lynx this season, Danna was a key figure for the stellar Lesley defense. In her 20 games this year, she helped the Lesley defense post six shutouts on the season, three of which were during conference play. Danna also netted her first two collegiate goals this season.
Kalou is a Health Science/Psychology major at Lesley with a 3.56 GPA and is a first-time CSC Academic All-District honoree. She was also a NAC Academic All-Conference selection last season as well. Kalou had a stellar year for the Lynx. The senior forward finished the year with a team-high nine goals and dished out five assists (23 points) in 20 games played. Her nine goals rank her in the top five of the NAC (fifth). Kalou also became the fourth student-athlete in program history to reach the 100-point milestone in a 7-0 win over Thomas College (Oct. 8). Kalou now concludes her Lynx career with 41 goals and 26 assists for 108 points. Whenever she scored a goal this year, the Lynx were an impressive 9-0-0. Thanks to her strong season, for the second year in a row, she was named to the NAC East Division's All-Conference First Team. She was also recognized as a NAC Co-Player of the Week this year during the week of October 15.
Finally, Weinzimer is also a Health Science/Psychology major here at Lesley who finished with a 3.98 GPA. Just like the rest of her teammates, Weinzimer was also a NAC Academic All-Conference honoree last season. Weinzimer was a solid contributor to the Lesley defense this season. She helped anchor a Lesley defense that allowed a conference-low 1.15 goals per game and let up just 23 goals. For her defensive efforts, Weinzimer was named to the NAC East Division All-Conference First Team for the first of her career.
About College Sports Communicators
College Sports Communicators (CSC) was founded in 1957 and is a 4,400+ member national association for strategic, creative and digital communicators across intercollegiate athletics in the United States and Canada. The current name of the organization was adopted following a membership-wide vote on August 31, 2022.
From its found in 1957 until the 2022 name change, the organization was known as College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The name change signaled a major step in a larger strategic plan to highlight the association's evolution and expansion. The move better aligns with the association's membership makeup and further positions the organization to support and advocate for its members who serve in the communications, digital and creative college sports industry, regardless of position or title.
The organization, which celebrated its 65th year during the 2021-22 academic year, is the second oldest management association in all of intercollegiate athletics. College Sports Communicators became an affiliated partner with NACDA (National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics) in December of 2008.
CSC's membership first reached the 3,000 mark during the 2013-14 school year and has topped that threshold each year since with the exception of the 2020-21 Covid-19 pandemic year. The membership base reached 4,000 for the first time in 2022-23.
Prior to the formation of the organization as CoSIDA in the mid-1950s, sports information directors as a group were a part of the American College Public Relations Association. Most SIDs at those ACPRA meetings eventually felt that a separate organization was needed and that led to CoSIDA's formation. There were 102 members at the original meeting/convention in 1957.
