THE LEAD – Visiting Lesley University scored three goals in the second half to pull away from Maine Maritime Academy for a 4-1 victory on Saturday in North Atlantic Conference women's soccer action at Ritchie Field. The Lynx improve to 4-4-1 overall and 2-1 in the NAC, while the Mariners fall to 3-4-1 on the season and 2-2 in the conference.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Isabella Danna (Miami, Fla.) gave the Lynx a 1-0 lead on a free kick in the 34th minute to end a 221 minute scoreless drought for Lesley.
  • The visitors opened it up early in the second frame, scoring three goals over the span of nine minutes to pull ahead 4-0 with just over 30 minutes to play. Senior Ariana Bunch (Newton, Mass.), first year Lily Wright (Eugene, Ore.) and senior Chase Livesey (St. Petersburg, Fla.) all found the back of the net during the flurry.
  • Kirra Magana helped the Mariners avoid a shutout with her ninth goal of the campaign at the 63:34 marker but Lesley tightened up and kept MMA scoreless the rest of the way to preserve the 4-1 road win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • LU outshot MMA by a 23-7 margin compared to a 4-4 deadlock on corner kicks.
  • Leecy Cruz (San Antonio, Texas.) and Zoe Curtaz (Novato, Calif.) notched assists for Lesley, both coming on Wright's goal in the 55th minute of play.
  • Lauren Lacy (Colorado Springs, Colo.) made five saves to pick up the victory in net to move to 3-1-1 on the year.
  • Isa Thesing made seven saves in a losing effort for the Mariners.

UP NEXT

  • The Lynx have the week off before playing host to UMPI on Saturday, October 5 at 3:00 PM for the program's senior day game.
  • Maine Maritime will be on the road on Friday for a NAC matchup against Thomas College in Waterville. Opening kickoff is scheduled for 6:30 PM.
