THE LEAD – The Bridgewater State University women's soccer team continued its unbeaten streak with a non-conference victory on Saturday. The Bears are 2-0-1 in their last three matches after a 3-1 win over Lesley University at Mazzaferro Field.

Junior Olivia Robarge (Pepperell, Mass.), graduate student Emily McCormack (East Bridgewater, Mass.) and sophomore Natalie Mattos (Fairhaven, Mass.) were the goal scorers for BSU (2-1-1 overall) while junior goalkeeper Logan Levesque (Bristol, R.I.) recorded the victory. Senior Sydney Dewhurst (East Bridgewater, Mass.) assisted on each of the Bears' first two goals.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Bears took a 1-0 lead just 2:42 into the game on a goal by Robarge, assisted by Dewhurst.
  • After a restart from the BSU defensive zone, Robarge got behind the defense off a long volley from Dewhurst and scored while going one-on-one with the keeper.
  • Robarge has four of the 10 goals scored by the Bears this season and has scored 12 in her career.
  • The lead went to 2-0 at 57:23 when McCormack scored her second goal of the season, assisted by Dewhurst.
  • Following a restart near midfield, Dewhurst kicked the ball over the Lesley defense and McCormack chipped over the keeper and it into the net.
  • BSU extended the margin to 3-0 at 59:03 when a through pass by freshman Emily Lehane (Braintree, Mass.) split a pair of defenders on the right side with Mattos converting inside the far post for her second career goal and first this season. Junior Skylar Conrad (Walpole, Mass.) also assisted on the play.
  • Lesley's lone goal was scored by junior Zoe Curtaz (Novato, Calif.), her first of the season, on a penalty kick at 81:23. Curtaz drew the foul to set up the kick.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • The Bears are now 3-0 against the Lynx in a series that began in 2022. BSU played its second of four consecutive home games.
  • Lesley held a 10-5 advantage in shots on goal and a 20-8 edge in shots, but the visitors managed only a goal on a penalty kick with less than 10 minutes remaining to avert the shutout.
  • Levesque made nine saves while recording her second win of the season. Lesley senior goalkeeper Lauren Lacy (Colorado Springs, Colo.) stopped two shots.
