THE LEAD – The Lesley University women's soccer team scored a pair of goals in the first half and held on for a 2-1 win over Wentworth Institute of Technology in the season opener for both teams.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Both teams had chances early with attempts going wide of the mark in a six-minute span.  
  • In the 21st minute of action, Madelyn Seder put a shot on net for the Black & Gold, which was stopped by senior keeper Lauren Lacy (Colorado Springs, Colo.
  • At the 23:18 mark, senior forward Abby Kalou (Chicago, Ill.) gave Lesley a 1-0 lead when she took a pass from senior Chase Livesey (St. Petersburg, Fla.) and placed a shot inside the right post.
  • Wentworth had a scoring chance in the 27th minute off a corner kick, however, Jordan Dahan's bid went wide of the mark.
  • With 13:00 left in the half, the Lynx upped their lead to 2-0 as senior Sasha Porter (Rancho Santa Margarita, Calif.) caused a turnover and sent a shot to the upper middle of the net.
  • Seder nearly put the Black & Gold on the board with a shot that was saved by Lacy in the 59th minute.
  • In the 73rd minute, Brooke Finlay took a shot that hit the crossbar. On the rebound, a foul was called in the box, resulting in a penalty kick. Hagen stepped up to the spot and put home the attempt to cut the visitor lead in half at 2-1 but it would prove to be the final as Lacy made a pair of saves for Lesley to pick up the win and move to 1-0 on the year. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Shyla Kulesza made three stops for the Leopards.
  • Lesley had a 12-8 shot advantage and a 2-1 edge in corner kicks.
  • Today was the fourth consecutive campaign the squads met in their season-opener, dubbed the "Cats Cup". The Lynx hold a 3-1 mark vs. the Leopards in the action.

UP NEXT

  • Wentworth is at Albertus Magnus on Sunday at 12:00 PM.
  • Lesley is idle until Saturday, September 7 when they take on MIT in Cambridge at 1:00 PM.
