Defensive Judges shut down Lynx, snap Lesley win streak

WALTHAM, MA -- Lesley had its five-match winning streak and eight-match unbeaten streak snapped Thursday night in a 1-0 loss at Brandeis in non-conference women's soccer play at Gordon Field.

Brandeis outshot Lesley, 15-6 for the contest, including 8-2 in the first half. Three first half shots came in quick succession starting at 19:55, when Judges midfielder Alyssa Fenenbock  hit a post and was denied by a Lesley defender on the rebound. Lynx goalkeeper Emileigh Lloyd recovered to turn back a shot by junior Mary Shimko, keeping the game scoreless after 20 minutes.

The Judges finally broke through in the 34th minute, drawing a foul 20 yards from goal on the right side of the field. Sophomore Alec Spivack bent her free kick around Lesley's wall of defenders and inside the far left post for the first goal of her collegiate career, which would ultimately be the game-winner.

Lesley sophomore Alexis Giusti earned two of the Lynx six shots, with four other players taking one a piece, including Sarah Apgar and Hayley Wirth, who earned the team's only two shots on goal.

Lloyd made five saves over her 90 minutes of work in net, turning back five Judges shots.

The Lynx return to play in NECC action on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Elms College.
