Lesley silences Wildcats behind Decareau's four scores

CAMBRIDGE, MA -- Lesley University improved to 9-1-2 and 4-0-0 in New England Collegiate Conference play with a 10-0 win over Wheelock College (3-9-0, 1-2-0) in NECC women's soccer action Sunday afternoon at Edward Field..

            Junior Casey Decareau (Haverhill, MA/Georgetown) scored a career-high four goals as the Lynx jumped on the Wildcats early and outshot the visitors 37-3 on the day.

            Fellow junior Sarah Apgar (Andover, NJ/Lenape Vally) scored goals in the second and third minutes, and then assisted on Alexis Giusti's (Meridian, CA/Yuba City) pretty one-timer that the sophomore looped in off the crossbar at 6:59.

            Decareau upped the score to 4-0 with a goal at 28:57, and Lesley went into halftime up four after outshooting the Wildcats 22-1 through the first half.

            As the team did in the first, Lesley scored two quick goals, with Kelsey Fitzgerald (Upton, MA/Nipmuc) assisting to Kate Ryder (Glastonbury, CT/Mercy) and Decareau in the first 4:03 out of the intermission. Decareau then added goals on assists from Hayley Wirth (Plano, TX/Frisco) and another from Christina Ogunti (Wappingers Falls, NY/Ketcham), scoring her career-high fourth goal to go on top 8-0.

            Lesley jumped ahead 9-0 with Courtney Hopkins (Watertown, MA/Watertown) sending a cross from the corner to Fitzgerald, and Hopkins upped the lead to 10-0 with 20 minutes to play with a goal of her own.

            In addition to Decareau's four-goal effort, Fitzgerald tallied a career-best three assists.

            For the Wildcats, Sarah McCaffrey (East Taunton, MA/Taunton) totaled 15 saves in goal.

            The Lynx return to play on Sunday at noon against Newbury.
