First-half score lifts MIT, 1-0, over Lynx

CAMBRIDGE, MA -- Lesley University (3-3-0) women's soccer fell to the MIT (4-1-0) Engineers, 1-0, in a closely-contested battle between Cambridge counterparts Tuesday night at Edward Field.

Lesley had its best scoring opportunity of the first half at the 12:00 mark, when Veronica Halen (San Diego, CA/ Cathedral Catholic) drove right but shot just high of the cross bar. After 39 minutes of a back and forth stalemate, Ambika Krishnamachar (Darien, CT/ Phillips) scored on a one-on-one breakaway, shooting from 10 yards out and scoring after her shot deflected off Lynx goalkeeper Emileigh Lloyd (Middletown, PA/ Middletown).

The Engineers outshot the Lynx 6-4 in the first half, with each teams netminder picking up two saves.

At 59:45, Halen came within inches of tying the contest. The sophomore fired a shot from 25 yards out that hit the top right corner of the goal and caromed out of bounds. Lesley fired off seven more shots in the half, but was unsuccessful on every opportunity.

On the night, MIT outshot the Lynx 12-11, but Engineers goalkeeper Meghan Wright (Devon, PA/ Conestoga) was the busier of the two keepers, collecting six saves. Lloyd was dealt the loss and stopped 3 shots between the pipes.

The Lynx return to action in non-conference play at Anna Maria College on Monday, September 19. Kickoff is slated for 7:00 p.m.
