Lynx drop opener at Eastern Nazarene, 4-2

QUINCY, MA -- Sarah Apgar scored the Lynx first goal of the season in the fifth minute on Thursday, but Eastern Nazarene's Juliana Speno and Kara Webber responded with two goals each in the Lions 4-2 victory.

In her first college game, Lesley's Alexis Giusti added a goal in the 61st minute.

Apgar got the Lynx on the board just 4:15 in the season, taking a cross from senior Jenna Fralick and beating Lions keeper Lisa Clark into the left of the net.

From there, though, Speno and Webber took over. The duo rudely greeted Lynx freshman goalkeeper Emileigh Lloyd to the college ranks, each beating the freshman on an unassisted tally to go up 2-1 at halftime.

Speno and Webber were no kinder to new keeper Corinne Dasti. On in relief of Lloyd, the Lions forwards again alternated goals, with a score from freshman Speno followed by the senior Webber's second of the match, as the Lions led comfortably, 4-1, at the 58:50 mark.

Giusti's goal just over a minute later, at 60:07, came on a fast break pass from senior Tracy Potter and cut the margin to 4-2, which would be the final.

The Lynx held a 17-15 advantage in shots in spite of the loss, which drops Lesley to 0-1-0.

For Eastern Nazarene, now 1-0-0, Clark stopped a game-high six shots on goal.

Lesley returns to Cambridge to play host to Castleton State on Saturday in a 4 p.m. start at Edward Field and will return to BB&N to take on Mount Ida on Sunday at noon.
