LONGMEADOW, Mass.-For the first 85 minutes of New England Collegiate Conference women's soccer action, the Wildcats of Bay Path were able to hold off conference leaders the Lynx of Lesley. Despite the tough defensive stance the Wildcats held, the Lynx were finally able to score in the 86th minute winning the hard fought match 1-0.
Junior defender Cathryn Folkestad (Ipswich,
Mass.) broke up the scoreless battle for the Lynx at 85:13
on the clock after a well placed cross by sophomore midfielder
Alyson Durben
(Stow, Mass.) after a corner kick. The Lynx had
five corner kicks to the Wildcats zero.
Lesley had 36 shots, 23 of which were on goal, to Bay Path's one for the 90 minutes.
Junior keeper Samantha Gunseth (Swanzey, N.H.) gave up only one goal while pulling off a career-high 21 saves on the 23 shots on goal.
Lesley is now 14-1-1 overall and 6-0-0 in conference while Bay Path falls to 1-9-2 on the season and 1-3-1 in the NECC. The Wildcats host Newbury in another NECC match on Monday, October 20th at 3:00 p.m.
