Women's soccer loses heartbreaker

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Lesley University failed to capitalize on late game heroics by Maggie Surrena (Vestal, N.Y.) as they fall to Wheelock College 3-2 in overtime. The Lady Lynx certainly did make the game extremely interesting for the Lesley faithful.

Surrena netted a penalty kick with just 52 seconds remaining in the game to send the game into overtime. Surrena was put in that position by Head Coach Alison Bimba after Lani Cabral-Pini (Wilmington, Mass.) was fouled on a breakaway inside the box. It was Surrena's first career collegiate goal and it couldn't have come at a more opportune time.

The Lady Lynx were trailing because Wheelock forward Alicia Eddy netted two goals within three minutes of each other in the 73rd and 76th minute to give Wheelock a 2-1 lead.

The Lynx had taken the lead early on when Jodi Fralick (Woburn, Mass.) scored in the 12th minute off of a Cathryn Folkestad (Ipswich, Mass.) assist.

The Lynx battled hard the whole way and thankfully were bailed out by Surrena in the 89th minute. However, Wheelock College got a quick goal by Stacy Seidner in the extra frame to give themselves their first conference win of the season.
