UMF nets two goals late to edge Lynx

FARMINGTON, Me. - Jodi Fralick (Woburn, Mass.) gave Lesley University hope of beating the University of Maine Farmington for the first time in Lesley's history.  Fralick buried a shot from over 50 feet out to give the Lady Lynx a 1-0 advantage in the 61st minute.

Fralick was put in the position to give the Lynx the lead because of outstanding play from keeper Sarah Wedge (Londenderry, N.H.).  UMaine-Farmington kept constant pressure on the defense the entire game attempting 33 shots, 20 on goal.  Wedge had 17 saves in net, single handily keeping the Lynx close with the Beavers.

Following Fralick's goal the Lynx held onto the lead until Liv Irons (York, Me.) netted the game tying goal off of an Amber Murphy assist in the 73rd minute.  The Beavers took the lead just 52 seconds later when Melissa St. Amand (Windsor, Me.) scored the eventual game winner.  Farmington's Jackie Mrazik (Mount Vernon, Me.) ended all hope for the Lynx when she scored the third goal for the Beavers in the 86th minute off of a Katharina Berger (Belfast, Me.) assist.

Although the score may not initially indicate it the Lynx played Farmington very tough the whole way through.  Head Coach Alison Bimba commented on the hard loss, "In the past we have earned our disrespect from other teams because of how terrible we were but now its time to earn respect from those same teams through hard work, the future of this program now begins with a clean slate.  The girls played hard, they showed me the beginning stages of our work ethic."

The Lady Lynx are back in action on Tuesday when they travel to Elms College.  For more information on the Lesley women's soccer team please go to their website.
