Kirwan spent the past two seasons as an assistant coach for Great Northeast Athletic Conference powerhouse Suffolk University where she helped lead the Rams to a program best 20-9 record in her first season.  The Rams reached the GNAC Championship in that season.  While with Suffolk, Kirwan was also in charge of the strength and conditioning program.

A 2007 graduate from Bentley University, Kirwan earned a Bachelor's Degree in Business Management while playing four years of varsity basketball under Falcons head coach Barbara Stevens.  During her playing career, Kirwan eclipsed the 1,000 point mark as well as compiling over 500 assists.  She currently holds the record for most minutes played by either a man or woman at Bentley, and is ranked in the top 10 of seven other statistical categories.  She lead the Falcons to three NCAA Division II tournament berths during her career including two Regional Championship games in 2005 and 2007.

Prior to her collegiate playing days, Kirwan was a Boston Globe and Boston Herald All-Scholastic performer at Melrose High School and in 2003 was named the 2003 Massachusetts Gatorade Player of the Year.
