CAMBRIDGE, Mass. - Coming off an exciting 62-58 win over No. 2 seed VTSU Lyndon, the No. 3 seed Lesley University women's basketball team looks to keep its momentum going when the Lynx takes on No. 1 seed SUNY Cobleskill for the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) West Division title.
Five Things To Know
- Saturday's matchup will be the third this season, with the Fighting Tigers winning the previous two.
- In the state of New York, Lesley is 4-1 this year.
- Offensively, SUNY Cobleskill was the top team in the NAC, scoring 1,968 points (75.7 ppg).
- Meanwhile, defensively, Lesley was ranked within the top three, allowing just 1,546 points (56.1 ppg).
- Saturday's matchup will be the first time both squads will meet in the postseason.
Who To Watch For
- Once again, Bella Terry (El Cajon, Calif.) will play a key role on both sides of the ball for Lesley. In Friday's win over VTSU Lyndon, she finished with 20 points and grabbed nine rebounds. It was her fourth time scoring at least 20 points, and the Lynx are 4-1 when she does so. Defensively, along with her nine rebounds, she swatted three shots away. It was the 12th time this year she had a multi-block game. In her two games against SUNY Cobleskill this year, Terry scored a total of 19 points (9.5) and grabbed 13 rebounds (6.5). In her first contest against the Fighting Tigers on Dec. 7, she notched her seventh double-double of the year, finishing with 12 points and 10 boards. Overall, Terry has 14 double-doubles and is tied for 12th in the country.
- Ahidali DeHuelbes (Tucson, Ariz.) was all over the floor in the win against VTSU Lyndon. The senior guard finished with 16 points and also tied a career-high in assists with nine. If DeHuelbes can continue setting up the Lesley offense and dish out more than five assists, the Lynx are 2-1. Her 16 points marked her 14th game this year, where she finished with 10+ points. DeHuelbes also chipped in six boards on Friday, her 20th game with five or more rebounds. Behind Terry's 239 rebounds in the regular season, DeHuelbes was the team's second-best rebounder with 161 boards.
- SUNY Cobleskill's offense revolves around star center Logan Thayne. During the year, Thayne was the Fighting Tigers' leading scorer with 440 total points (18.3 ppg) and best rebounder with 302 rebounds (12.6 rpg). In Friday's win over No. 4 seed VTSU Johnson, Thayne earned her 12th consecutive double-double with a 32-point, 13-rebound performance. Her double-double marked her 22nd of the season, which is currently tied for first in the nation. Thayne has notched 11 games this year with 20+ points, highlighted by a career-high 33 against RPI (Nov. 17). On the glass, Thayne has recorded 15+ rebounds in four games including two 20+ rebound games against Baruch (Nov. 23) and Husson (Jan. 18). In her two games against Lesley, she has scored 41 points (20.5) and brought down 28 rebounds (14.0 rpg).
- The Fighting Tigers' offense features four other scorers along with Thayne, who finished with 100+ points, including Antonia May (372 points-14.2 ppg), Taylor Meacham (272 points-10.9 ppg), Cara Walker (229 points-10.9 ppg), and Annie Canales (183 points-7.3 ppg). In Friday's win versus VTSU, Johnson, Canales, and Meacham also finished the game in double-figures with 14 and 13 points, respectively.
