THE LEAD -  Thanks to strong all-around play on both sides of the ball, the Lesley University women's basketball team concluded the regular season with an 81-34 triumph over Fisher College on Saturday afternoon. Prior to the start of the game, Lesley honored its three graduating student-athletes: Hillary Berry (Walpole, N.H.)Ahidali DeHuelbes (Tucson, Ariz.), and Bella Terry (El Cajon, Calif.). Lesley University Athletics would like to thank these three student-athletes for all their efforts for the Lesley women's basketball program!

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In the opening moments of the first quarter, both sides played even basketball. The Falcons held an early 7-5 lead after an Ariana Ramos Cardona jumper. However, the Lynx responded the next play after DeHuelbes capitalized on two free throws, which led to a Fisher timeout at 3:38. Coming out of the break, Lesley gave itself some breathing room and went up five (13-8) after buckets from three different Lynx. Fisher trimmed the lead to three (13-10) thanks to a Mayouri Yath jumper with under two minutes (1:34) left in the frame.
  • Going into the second, Lesley maintained its three-point lead but doubled up the Falcons (20-10)early in the quarter, courtesy of a 7-0 start. DeHuelbes led the Lynx's early offense, scoring three points.
  • Later in the quarter, after the Falcons cut the deficit to single digits (22-13), the Lynx's offense found a rhythm and pulled away thanks to a 16-3 stretch leading to a Lesley timeout with 39 seconds left until halftime. Alawnah Dunda (Fort Ann, N.Y.) spearheaded the Lynx's surge with seven points. After the timeout, Terry would knock down a three with 30 seconds left, and the squad took a 41-17 going into halftime.
  • After five quick points from the Falcons to start the third (43-22), Lesley called a quick timeout to gather itself at 9:03. Coming out of the timeout, the Lynx got their act together and outscored the Falcons, 18-4 the rest of the quarter and took a 61-26 lead going into the fourth. Berry led the squad in scoring in the third with eight points.
  • The fourth quarter was more of the same as the squad opened the frame on a 7-2 spurt (68-28) before Fisher called a timeout to try and halt the Lesley offense. Terry led the Lynx during the opening moments of the fourth with four points highlighted by a three.
  • When both teams headed back onto the court after the break, the Lynx maintained control the rest of the way and closed out the quarter on a 13-6 run for the 81-34 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Berry led all scorers with a career-high 18 points, highlighted by a 4-6 clip from three. Her four-made threes were also a career-high for the senior forward.
  • Terry notched her 15th double-double of the season with 17 points and 12 rebounds. She was also all over the floor defensively, swiping a career-high five steals.
  • Dunda also notched a career-high Saturday with 14 points, which included an 8-11 performance from the free-throw line.
  • Ramos Cardona led the Falcons offense with 14 points on the day.
  • As a team, Lesley outscored Fisher by a 40-17 margin in the second half. The squad also did not allow the Falcons to score more than 10 points in the last three quarters.
  • Defensively, the 34 points allowed on Saturday marked the third time this year that the Lynx have allowed 40 or fewer points in a game.
  • Lesley has now extended its win streak over Fisher to four games.
  • With the win Saturday, Lesley reached the 10-win plateau for the first time since the 2010-11 season. The nine-win turnaround from last season (1-23) is the best in program history.
