THE LEAD - In their second matchup of the season, the Lesley University women's basketball team took on SUNY Cobleskill in North Atlantic Conference (NAC) play but unfortunately fell to the visitors, 83-46.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- SUNY Cobleskill's offense started off hot as the Tigers jumped out to an early 12-2 thanks to five points from Antonia May. However, Lesley slowly picked away at the deficit and found themselves down five (14-9) after a 7-2 stretch with 3:49 left in the first. Three different Lynx helped with the Lesley rally, including three from Leila Chisholm (Santa Barbara, Calif.).
- Despite the late-quarter momentum from the Lynx, SUNY Cobleskill closed out the remainder of the quarter on a 7-2 run themselves and took a 21-11 advantage going into the second.
- In the second quarter, it was all SUNY Cobleskill. The Tiger's offense continued where they left off in the first and scored 15 unanswered points for a 36-11 lead with 3:09 left until halftime. Even after two Ahidali DeHuelbes (Tucson, Ariz.) free throws broke up SUNY Cobleskill's run, the Tiger's defense held strong, and the visitors would go into the half with a 37-17 lead. Throughout the second, Logan Thayne led the SUNY Cobleskill offense with 10 points.
- As the third quarter got underway, SUNY Cobleskill did not lose any offensive momentum during the break as the Tigers opened the frame on an 11-4 stretch before the Lynx called a timeout. Coming out of the break, SUNY Cobleskill's offense continued where it left off by going on a 13-6 run, and the lead ballooned to 34 (61-27) before another Lesley timeout. May led the most recent run for the Tigers by chipping in five points. After the timeout, SUNY Cobleskill held firm again and outscored Lesley the rest of the quarter, 6-3, for a 67-30 advantage going into the fourth.
- The fourth quarter saw the Tigers grab their largest lead of the afternoon when Kayleigh Bryant converted on a layup that made it 69-30 with nine minutes left to play. From then on, SUNY Cobleskill's strong offense continued and would ultimately secure the 83-46 victory.
