THE LEAD—For the second time this season, the Lesley University women's basketball team swept a North Atlantic Conference (NAC) opponent in a season series by topping SUNY Delhi 61-32 Friday evening. The Lynx have also swept their season series with VTSU Johnson this year. This is the first time since the 2010-11 season when Lesley was part of the NECC they have swept two conference season series. It is also the program's first time sweeping two NAC season series since 2005-06.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • In the first quarter, it was all Lesley as the squad opened the frame, scoring 10 unanswered points to take a quick 10-0 lead before SUNY Delhi was forced to call timeout. Leila Chisholm (Santa Barbara, Calif.) led the early surge of offense with five points. For the last 4:23 of the quarter, Lesley's defense held firm and kept SUNY Delhi to single digits for the quarter, and the squad took a 16-5 lead going into the second.
  • However, in the second half, the Broncos offense started to gain momentum, and the visitors were down three (16-13) after an 8-0 rally before the Lynx called timeout. Shakera Fullenwilder and Jewl Torres chipped in four points apiece during the Broncro's run.
  • Coming out of the break, SUNY Delhi continued to linger around and found themselves down three (20-17) again, thanks to two Fullenwilder free throws with 5:04 left until halftime. Despite keeping things within reach, Lesley's offense closed out the remainder of the quarter on a 12-0 spurt and took a 32-17 lead into the half. Bella Terry (El Cajon, Calif.) led the Lynx surge with eight points.
  • Lesley's offense continued where it left off from the second into the third as the squad utilized a 12-2 surge to double up SUNY Delhi (46-23) before the Broncos called a timeout. Terry once again led the Lynx's run with eight points. After the timeout, Lesley continued its strong offensive performance the rest of the quarter and outscored SUNY Delhi 5-2 for the last 4:14 of the quarter to go up 51-25 heading into the fourth.
  • In the fourth quarter, both sides nearly matched each other's play, but the Lynx held a slight edge, 10-7. Throughout the quarter, Aaliyah Wilburn (Derby, Vt.) led the Lynx in scoring with four points, and the squad would eventually score the 61-32 NAC victory.
