THE LEAD – In a game that saw seven different scorers for the Lesley University women's basketball team, the Lynx came away with a nonconference win at Fisher College, 50-36, Tuesday evening.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- Lesley's offense started quickly as the squad opened the first on an 11-0 run before Fisher called a timeout to try and stop the Lynx's momentum. During Lesley's opening stretch in the first, Leila Chisholm (Santa Barbara, Calif.) spearheaded the offense with seven points, including a three-pointer.
- Coming out of the break, Fisher pulled within single digits and closed out the remaining 3:32 of the first on a 6-3 spurt and was down eight (14-6) after one quarter. Going into the second, the Lynx's offense continued where it left off and pushed its lead back to double digits (22-10) thanks to an 8-4 stretch, which led to a Lesley timeout. Chisholm and Ahidali DeHuelbes (Tucson, Ariz.) each had four points apiece in the opening moments of the second.
- After the timeout, Lesley's momentum was not halted. The squad closed out the frame, outscoring the Falcons 4-1, and took a 26-11 lead at halftime. Chisholm was the squad's leading scorer at the break, with 13 points on 6-11 shooting.
- The third quarter was back-and-forth, as Lesley only outscored Fisher 13-10. At one point, the Falcons came as close as 14 (33-19) thanks to an 8-3 rally before calling a timeout. Ariana Ramos Cardona chipped in four points during the run for the Falcons. Coming out of the break, Lesley kept its distance and pushed the lead back out to 18 (39-21) by closing out the third on a 6-2 spurt.
- In the fourth quarter, Lesley's offense continued to increase its lead and grabbed its largest advantage of the night at the 8:36 mark, when Baileigh Sinaman-Daniel (Stafford, Va.) knocked down a jumper, that made it 44-21, leading to a Lynx timeout. From then on, Lesley continued to apply the pressure on both ends of the ball and ultimately secured a 50-36 road victory.
