THE LEAD –  Despite being down by as much as 18 to Wentworth Institute of Technology (WIT), the Lesley University women's basketball team made a late push, but unfortunately came up short, 59-52 Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Lesley jumped out to a quick 4-1 lead after Abbie Price (Waco, Texas) knocked down two free throws at 7:52. Later in the quarter with both schools tied at seven, the Leopards doubled up the Lynx (14-7) behind a 7-0 run highlighted by five points from Taylor Garabedian.
  • WIT entered the second quarter up 16-10 and continued its momentum going up 20-12 with 7:19 left until halftime. However, the Lynx clawed back and were down three (24-21) courtesy of a 9-4 run that saw three different Lynx contribute to the rally.
  • Even though the Leopards tried to give themselves breathing room with a 28-21 advantage with 3:01 left, Lesley pulled within two (28-26) after a Price three and Bella Terry (El Cajon, Calif.) layup. Although Lesley was not able to tie things, the squad went into halftime only down four (32-28).
  • Wentworth utlizled a strong third quarter to pull away thanks to a 14-4 run (46-32) which led to a Lesley timeout at 1:22. Garabedian once again led the Leopards during the run with six points.
  • The Leopards offense continued its momentum heading into the fourth as the hosts grabbed their largest lead of the night (52-34) when Regan Madonia knocked down two free throws at 7:42. Despite the large deficit, Lesley trimmed the WIT lead to seven (56-49) thanks to a 15-4 rally led by eight points from Jaira Moore (Chula Vista, Calif.) which included back-to-back threes.
  • Thanks to Lesley's late run, Wentworth was forced to take a timeout with 1:29 remaining. Unfortunately, the Leopards held off the late Lesley push and knocked down their free throws and secured the 59-52 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Madalynn Biagi (Lincoln, Calif.) paced the Lesley offense with a season-high seven assists.
