THE LEAD –  Despite a double-double from Bella Terry (El Cajon, Calif.), the Lesley University women's basketball team suffered its first loss of the regular season at Dean College, 70-56, Wednesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Dean opened up the first quarter, scoring the first seven points, but Lesley made sure to hang around. Despite being down 10-3 early on, the squad trimmed the deficit to three (11-8) thanks to a 5-1 spurt, with Jaira Moore (Chula Vista, Calif.) scoring four of the five points.
  • After both sides went back and forth, Dean found themselves up four (20-16) after one. In the opening moments of the second quarter, the Lynx scored four straight points and evened the contest at 20 after Terry knocked down both her free throws. As the quarter went on, the Bulldogs generated some momentum of their own after two Tori Viau free throws put the hosts up eight (28-20) with 4:17 left before halftime.
  • However, Lesley did not let Dean pull away thanks to an 8-2 run spearheaded by four points from Terry and the Lynx went into the half down two (30-28).
  • The Bulldogs started the third by scoring five straight points and increasing their lead to seven (35-28) after Kendrah Doan knocked down a three. Once again, the Lynx continued to lurk around and brought the Bulldogs' lead down to three after back-to-back buckets from Terry. Throughout the rest of the quarter, Dean never could pull away, and at the end of the quarter, the Lynx found themselves down five (42-37).
  • It was the fourth quarter though, that eventually allowed Dean to start pulling away for good. At the start of the quarter, the Bulldogs grabbed their first double-digit lead (52-42) thanks to a 10-5 run, which led to a Lesley timeout. Coming out of the timeout, Abbie Price (Waco, Texas) hit a three that made it 52-43, but unfortunately, that would be the closest the Lynx would get the rest of the contest, and the hosts would eventually secure a 70-56 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Terry finished Wednesday with her first career double-double thanks to career-highs in both points (24) and rebounds (15). She is the first first year to record a double-double since Saniyyah Phillips (Jan. 6, 2024). She also set a career-high in blocks with three.
  • Madalynn Biagi (Lincoln, Calif.) chipped in defensively with a career-high two blocks.
  • Lesley held the advantage in free throws by going 14-18 (77.8%) from the line compared to Dean's 8-12 (66.7%).
  • The Bulldogs saw two student-athletes finish with 20 or more points, including Alexandria Paquet, who scored a game-high 22, and Viau, who scored 21.
