THE LEAD – The Lesley University women's basketball program picked up a 67-58 over Vermont State Randolph to cap off the 2024 SUNY Delhi Tip-Off Classic with a 2-0 record, marking the program's first 2-0 start since the 2007-08 campaign.

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • The Lynx set the tone with a strong opening quarter, opening up a 10-point lead following a layup from senior Ahidali DeHuelbes (Tucson, Ariz.) to make it 18-8 with 2:16 to play before VTSU closed the quarter on a 6-0 flurry to pull with 18-14 through one.
  • Sammy Barcomb's jumper with 7:25 to play in the half pulled the Knights to within a single possession at 18-16 but the Lynx dominated the final seven minutes of the stanza to close the half on a 19-5 spurt and take a 37-21 cushion into halftime.
  • Randolph put the Lynx in check in the third, holding Lesley to only seven points and a three in the final possession of the quarter by Yvonne Roberge got it back to single digits at 44-36 heading into the final stanza.
  • The Lynx bounced back with highest scoring quarter of the weekend in the fourth, dropping 23 points to pull away for the 67-56 victory.

INSIDE THE NUMERS

  • Sophomore guard Savannah Gravitt (Richmond Hill, Ga.) led LU with a team-high 17 points on 5-of-10 shooting including 1-for-1 from behind the arc, adding eight boards. DeHuelbes chipped in with 13 points and eight rebounds.
  • Junior center Bella Terry (El Cajon, Calif.) posted another double-double with 12 points and 10 boards.
  • Despite the setback, Roberge put together an impressive individual effort coming two steals shy of a quadruple-double, posting 22 points, 12 assists, 10 rebounds and eight steals.
  • Both teams shot an identical 60% from the free-throw line (9-for-15).
  • The 2-0 start matches the 2007-08 season for the last time the Lynx have grabbed a pair of wins to open a campaign.
