Slow Start Keeps Lynx From Defeating Hornets

GAME OVERVIEW:

LYNDON, VT. -- The Lesley Women's Basketball team were unable to bounce back from a slow start as they lost 66-51 to the NVU-Lyndon Hornets on Sunday afternoon. The Lynx fall to 2-7 overall this season, while the Hornets advance to 4-2.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

  • The Hornets had the upper hand out of the gate, going up 12-0 to start the first quarter. Raven Premont made the only shot of the first quarter for the Lynx, with Sydnie Drezek sinking two free throws. Lesley went into the second down 14-4.
  • Despite stronger play, the Lynx were unable to close the gap by halftime. Riann Forton led NVU with seven points, while Kizziah Ruff put up eleven in the second quarter to help the Lynx get back into it. The Hornets took a 30-21 lead into halftime.
  • Fortin stayed hot in the third quarter, scoring eleven points to keep the Hornets ahead and extend their lead to twelve. She picked up four offensive rebounds in the fourth quarter to help seal the game for her side.
  • Fortin was the game's leading scorer with 19, while Lea Crompton had 16 and Saleena Porter finished with 14 off the bench. Ruff led the Lynx with 18 points and five steals, while Drezek had nine points and eight rebounds. Alexandra Kerley had eight points and nine rebounds for Lesley, with Raven Premont contributing three steals and five rebounds off the bench.
