Strong Second Half From New England College Downs Lynx, 82-46

GAME OVERVIEW:

Henniker, N.H.— 51 points in the second half was enough for New England College to down Lesley University Women's Basketball, 82-46, Thursday evening at Bridges Gym. The loss brings the Lynx to 1-14 overall, and 1-8 in NECC conference play.  The Pilgrims lift their record to 8-7 on the season, 7-2 in conference.

INSIDE THE BOXSCORE:

  • New England College started the game leading 11-2 over the first 4:42 minutes. Lesley would put together a 7-5 run of their own to finish the first quarter, but still trailed 16-8 after the first 10 minutes.
  • The Pilgrims came out strong defensively to start the second quarter giving the Lynx minimal scoring opportunities and allowing just four points in the first opening four minutes.  During this defensive stand, the Pilgrims built a comfortable lead of 11 points at the 5:01 mark following a Haleigh Martin layup, 25-14 New England College.
  • Lesley closed the half on a good spurt, narrowing the gap to just five points after a Dakota Jones free throw, 31-26 at the break in favor of the Pilgrims.
  • New College returned from the locker room with great intent as they attacked the basket to great effect. The Pilgrims would go on to shoot 11-17 from the field in the third quarter adding 28 points in just one frame. Lesley could not keep pace with the hot Pilgrims.
  • The Pilgrims were able to expand their lead to as many as 34 points, without relinquishing the lead through the contest. The offensive overload was too much for Lesley as the game finished 82-46 New England College.
  • Jones led the way for the Lynx with 25 points and nine rebounds, both were team highs for the Lesley. Theresa Pereira and Kacey Johnson both added six points to the Lesley total.
  • Ericka Pratt contributed a double-double off of the bench with 10 points and 10 rebounds. Meanwhile, three other Pilgrims reached double figures, including a team 18 points from Rene Hudson, Kayla Goldring added 11 points while Anoushka Boatswain chipped in with 10 points.
