DWC Forces Season-Split with Women's Basketball

NASHUA, N.H. – Lesley University sophomore Dakota Jones (Torrance, Calif.) notched her eleventh double-double of the season but it was not enough to down Daniel Webster College as the Eagles salvaged a season-series split following a 70-57 victory over the Lynx tonight at Mario Vagge Gymnasium.

Jones led the Lynx with 17 points and a game-best 13 rebounds, including eight on the offensive glass. Eagles junior Escarlin Reynoso (Lawrence, Mass.) countered with a game-high 22 points with four three-pointers and five assists to power the DWC attack. Senior Kayla Free (Quincy, Mass.) added 19 points – including 13 in the fourth quarter – to eclipse the 1,000 point plateau for her career.

The win for the Eagles secures a season-series split as the Lynx defeated DWC 79-71 back on November 29th in Cambridge. With the setback, the Lynx fall to 6-11 overall and 4-6 in the NECC while the Eagles jump to 6-11 and 4-6 as the two teams are tied in the conference standings.

DWC senior Briana Diggs (Washington, D.C.) Reynoso and Free with a double-double of 18 points and 10 rebounds to go with four assists. Junior Natasha Santana (Lawrence, Mass.) chipped in with 10 points for the hosts.

Jones added two steals and a block to her line on the night while fellow first year Linda Wallentine (Monroe Township, N.J.) added 12 points, seven boards and four assists. Senior Emily Meade (Derry, N.H.) chipped in with seven points and six caroms while classmate Courtney Goggin (Cheshire, Conn.) added six points and a pair of steals.

The Eagles visit Regis Saturday for a NECC meeting at 1:00 p.m. Lesley hosts NECC foe Southern Vermont Sunday at 2:00 p.m.

Lesley led by as many as seven in the first quarter and were up 16-13 after one but DWC regained the lead behind a pair of Santana layups early in the second. The lead grew to four before Lesley grabbed what would prove to be its final lead with 2:10 to go before the break on a Wallentine jumper before Reynoso closed the half with a layup and three from the deep right pocket that gave the hosts a 32-28 advantage at the half.

The third remained close as DWC lead was cut to three with 3:50 left after Lesley's Abby Henderson (Rochester, N.H.) converted from ten feet. But the Eagles closed the quarter with a 12-2 run keyed by a pair of Reynoso treys and a Free layup to beat the clock giving the hosts a 53-40 advantage heading into the fourth.

A Goggin jumper to open the final frame made it an 11-point game but DWC allowed the Lynx no closer. A Free layup and three-pointer 44 seconds apart pushed the advantage to 15 (66-51) with four minutes to go and the score remained until Free followed with her 1,000th.
