CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Regis College raced past Lesley University 79-32 tonight in New England Collegiate Conference Women's Basketball action at the Nicholas Athletics Center. The win runs the Pride's current winning streak to five games as they improve to 12-2 on the year and a perfect 8-0 in NECC play while the loss drops the Lynx to 1-13 overall and 0-8 in conference standings.
Regis junior Amanda Hawkesworth (Abington, Mass.) powered the offensive attack that saw five players finish in double figures with a double-double of 11 points and a game-best 15 rebounds. Senior Alyssa Lanpher (Princeton, Mass.) hit all three of her attempts from beyond the arc on her way to a 15 point, seven assist effort while sophomores Shannon Hayes (Billerica, Mass.) and Brittany Stone (West Bridgewater, Mass.) each finished with 11 points. Freshman Sam D'Angelo (Woburn, Mass.) came off the bench to lead all players with 16 points on 4-of-5 shooting from the floor and a 7-of-8 effort from the free throw line.
The Pride used their height to their advantage and out-rebounded the Lynx by a 61-21 margin, including 25 off the offensive glass create 27 second chance points. Regis also outscored their hosts 40-16 in the painted area.
Lesley sophomore Theresa Pereira (Hopedale, Mass.) finished in double-figures for the Lynx for the seventh time in the last eight games as she poured in a team-best 14 points. Senior Ari Dimou (Manchester, N.H.) followed Pereira with eight points to go with four rebounds, three assists, and a pair of steals. Junior Hannah Levensailor (Ayer, Mass.) and senior Anthea Rathjens (Sudbury, Mass.) each added four points in reserve duty for the hosts.
Regis would never trail in the game as they opened the first quarter on a 9-0 run and never looked back. The Pride used superb ball move and shot 42% (27-of-63) from the floor while dishing out a collective 17 assists on their 27 total field goals. Regis also took advantage of their trips to the free throw line, knocking down 75% (21-of-28) of their attempts on the night. The Lynx converted 23% (12-of-51) from the field and 50% (8-of-16) of their attempts at the charity stripe.
The Lynx will be off for the next week and return to NECC action next Tuesday when they head to Bay Path University at 8:00p. The Pride will be back in conference play on Saturday as they will play host to Southern Vermont College at 1:00p.
