Wentworth Races Past Women's Basketball at Thanksgiving Classic

WENHAM, Mass. – The Wentworth Institute of Technology opened the game one a 12-3 run and never looked back as the Leopards topped the Lesley University women's basketball team 58-33 in the final day of the Gordon College Thanksgiving Classic. The Lynx fall to 0-3 on the season while the Leopards improve to 2-1 with the win.

Lesley found a spark from sophomore guard Theresa Pereira (Hopedale, Mass.) in the second half, but Wentworth's lead was too great by that point. Pereira shot 50-percent from the floor for 14 points to lead the Lynx off the bench. Senior Anthea Rathjens (Sudbury, Mass.) finished with six points, four steals, two assists, while grabbing a game-high ten rebounds. Junior Hannah Levensailor (Ayer, Mass.) added seven points for the Lynx.

Rachael Camara (Fall  River, Mass.) paced the Leopards all day with made threes in bunches. The senior guard made six of seven attempts from behind the arc and led all players with 19 points. Kellie Messer (Hollis, N.H.) added ten points and seven boards while Carly Rogers (Scarborough, Maine) also finished with ten points and a team-high seven assists.

Messer gave the Leopards a quick lead off the bat with a jumper before Rathjens answered with a layup to even the game at 2-2. Camara answered with her first of three triples in the quarter as Wentworth took control with a 16-2 run over the next 8:25. The Leopards would not trail in the game.

Despite their slow start, the Lynx Lesley outscored the Leopards 11-6 in the final period.

Lesley will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Eastern Nazarene College for a battle with the Lions at 5:00p.
