Women's Basketball Falls at Day One of Thanksgiving Classic

WENHAM, Mass. – The Lesley University women's basketball team dropped a 58-30 decision to Gordon College in the opening night of the Gordon Thanksgiving Classic. Day two of the tournament will continue tomorrow when the Lynx will battle with Wentworth at 1:00p.

The Fighting Scots will wrap up the tournament tomorrow as they square off with New England College at 3:30p. The Pilgrims defeated the Leopards 44-43 on a buzzer-beating layup in the opening game of the tournament on Friday evening.

Lesley senior Ari Dimou (Manchester, N.H.) and sophomore Theresa Pereira (Hopedale, Mass.) finished with seven points and three rebounds apiece to lead the Lynx offense. Senior Hayley Wirth (Escondido, Calif.) came off the bench to provide five points and a game-high four steals. Junior Emily Meade (Derry, N.H.) pulled down a team-best four boards for the guests.

Gordon freshman Jamie Tafoya (Fort Collins, Colo.) led the way for the hosts with ten points and eight rebounds in 15 minutes off the bench. Sophomore Sophie Linnell (Richmond, Va.) finished with eight points, six boards and three steals and classmate Kristen Smith (Littleton, Mass.) added seven points for the Scots, who are now 3-0 to start the season.

The Scots sprinted out of the gate as they rolled out to a 19-0 lead over the first eight minutes of the game and never looked back. Gordon grew its lead to 55-20 with two minutes to go in the third quarter, but they would only score three points over the final 12 minutes in a 58-30 victory.
