Women's Basketball Falls in First Semester Finale

WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Lesley University women's basketball team dropped a non-conference tilt to the University of St. Joseph (CT), 62-34, in the first semester finale this evening at the O'Connell Center. With the win, USJ snapped a three-game losing skid and improves to 5-4 overall while the Lynx fall to 0-6 on the season.

Blue Jays senior Lindsey Dionne (Portland, Conn.) scored 13 points while classmate Heather Framski (Prospect, Conn.) had 11 points and 12 rebounds to lead the hosts. Freshman Rajeen Mayo (Middletown, Conn.) also finished in double-figures for USJ as she finished with ten points and four rebounds. Senior Brianna Ferraro (Waterbury, Conn.) filled the stat sheet, finishing with six points, three rebounds, five steals, and a game-high seven assists.

Junior Jackie Ewing (Hong Kong, China) scored 12 points to lead Lesley while also adding five rebounds, two steals and two assists to her line. Senior Grace Amato (Sharon, Vt.) recorded her third straight game in double-digits as the center finished with ten points to go with her seven boards. Fellow senior Anthea Rathjens (Sundbury, Mass.) and sophomore Emily Meade (Derry, N.H.) each pulled down eight rebounds on the night.

Amato gave the Lynx an early 4-3 lead with 16:50 to go in the first, but the USJ defense forced 15 turnovers in the first 10 minutes on the way to a 20-8 start and never trailed again. The Blue Jays would push their lead to 37-15 at the end of the first half.

The Lynx had some success down low as they scored 22 of their points in the paint, but were out-rebounded by a 46-40 margin in the loss.

Lesley will be off for the winter break and return to action when they travel to Southern Vermont College at 2:00p on Tuesday, January 6th. The Blue Jays are off until hosting Westfield State, Fri. Jan. 2, 2015 at 5:30 p.m.
