Wildcats Trump the Lynx in NECC Action

HOLYOKE, Mass.- Bay Path junior forward Kayla Skiffington (East Longmeadow, Mass.) and sophomore point guard Toni Alexander (Enfield, Conn.) combined for 31 points as the Wildcats shut down the Lynx 56-32 in New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) women's basketball action today at the Bartley Center.

Skiffington finished with a double-double tallying 16 points and 10 rebounds, while Toni Alexander had 15 points and six assists.

Lesley was led by freshman guard Shannon Baker (Lynnbrook, N.Y.) scoring ten points. Bay Path's sophomore center Gladys Reed (Hamden, Conn.) finished with seven points and eight boards.

The Wildcats scored the first seven points of the contest and never trailed the rest of the way. With just under ten minutes left in the opening half, the Lynx cut the lead to two after back-to-back threes from Baker and freshman guard Ari Dimou. Bay Path answered right back, ending the half on a 10-3 run, capped off by a Toni Alexander jumper.

The Wildcats won the battle on the glass, outrebounding the Lynx 54 to 27. Senior guard Brittney Alexander (Enfield, Conn.) pulled down nine rebounds, while sophomore guard Katherine Chabot (Brookfield, Mass.) finished with eight rebounds. Three Wildcats each added six points including Chabot, B. Alexander and junior guard Justine Hook (Berwick, Penn.).

The Lynx struggled from the floor, only shooting 20.8% (11-of-53) from the game while Bay Path hit 48% (24-of-50) of their shots.

Lesley's junior guard Sarah Apgar (Andover, N.J.) and Dimou each added five points.

Bay Path is now 8-6 overall and 5-3 in the NECC, while Lesley falls to 1-13 and 0-8 in league play. Bay Path will host Mitchell College at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, January 22nd, while Lesley hosts Elms next Tuesday for a 6:30 p.m. start.
