(CAMBRIDGE, Mass.) – Four different players scored in double-figures as the Lesley University women's basketball team cruised past the Fisher College Falcons 82-35 on Sunday afternoon at Buckingham, Browne, & Nichols gymnasium in Cambridge, Mass. With the victory the Lynx improve to 1-4 while the Falcons fall to 0-6.
Grace Amato (Sharon, Vt.) led the Lynx finishing with a double-double (17 points, 21 rebounds). Kaleigh Gorman (East Setauket, N.Y.) and Jackie Ewing (Hong Kong) each added 14 points while Sarah Apgar (Andover, N.J.) finished with 11 points to round-out the scoring highlights for Lesley.
Amato came out and finished two quick lay-ups sparking a 16-4 run to open the game for Lesley. Jumpers by Carrie Fieger (Simsbury, Conn.) and Gorman along with a fast break lay-up by Apgar pushed the lead 23-6 midway through the first half.
Lesley continued the onslaught throughout, capping a terrific first half as Ewing drilled a 3-pointer with 1-second remaining on the clock to send the Lynx into the half up 43-13.
Lesley continued the hot shooting in the second half, never leading by less than 28 points, before closing with the 47-point victory.
The Express were stingy on defense, forcing 34 Falcon turnovers to go along with 16 steals and four blocks, while holding the rebounding advantage 62-36.
Lesley was also hot from the floor from beginning to end, shooting 42.9 percent while finishing with a season high 22 assists. In total, eight different players added to the score sheet, including Fieger and Anthea Rathjens (Sudbury, Mass.) with eight points each, Ari Dimou (Manchester, N.H.) with six points, and Tori Hoefs (Avalon, Calif.) rounding out the scoring with four points.
Porshia Grayson led the Falcons with a team high 17 points and 13 rebounds while Shakieya Rouland-Drake finished with 11 points.
The Lynx return to action next when they open New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) play against Mitchell College on Tuesday at 8:00 pm on the campus of Buckingham, Browne, & Nichols in Cambridge, Mass.
