NEW JERSEY CITY TAKES CONSOLATION GAME

(NORTON, Mass.)- The New Jersey City University women's basketball team used a 16-0 run midway through the first half en route to a 67-29 victory over the Lesley University women's basketball team on Sunday afternoon in the consolation game of the Cheryl Warren-Powers '95 Memorial Tournament hosted by Wheaton College in Norton, Mass. With the loss the Lynx fall to 0-3 on the season while NJCU improves 1-1.

Grace Amato (Sharon, Vt.) paced all Lynx scorers with a team high 11 points to go along with four rebounds. Anthea Rathjens (Sudbury, Mass.) led the defense on the glass finishing with 11 rebounds. Lesley freshmen Alina Donato (Newton, Mass.) earned all tournament honors finishing with a total of seven points over the two-day tournament

Alnisa Hernalz led NJCU with double-double finishing with game highs of 17 points and 13 rebounds earning her all-tournament honors. Ashley Vasquez also reached double figures finishing with 15 points on the afternoon.

Two straight buckets by Amato put the Lynx up early 4-2, however the NJCU was just getting started. Leading by two (11-9) after two Sarah Apgar (Andover, N.J.) free throws, the Knights started a run of 16 straight points over span of eight minutes, running out to a 27-9 lead before closing the half with a commanding 38-14 lead.

The Knights continued to roll in the second half as their lead never fell below 20 points the rest of the way.

The Lynx will look to bounce back after the holiday break when they take on Pine Manor College on Nov. 29 at 8 pm at the Buckingham, Browne, and Nichols gymnasium in Cambridge, Mass.
