KNIGHTS RIDE PAST LYNX IN SEASON OPENER
(CAMBRIDGE, Mass.)- Despite 13 points and nine rebounds from Grace Amato (Sharon, Vt.) the Lesley University women's basketball team fell in their season opener 54-38 to the Vermont Tech Knights at the Buckingham, Browne, and Nichols gymnasium Friday night in Cambridge, Ma.

Ari Dimou
(Manchester, N.H.) and Jackie Ewing (Hong Kong, HK) each chipped six points while Dimou added a team high 10 boards to round-out the highlights for the Lynx.

Kelly Vellek lead the Knights with a game high 24 points while Ama Baker notched a double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.

The Lynx jumped out to an early 4-0 lead on buckets by Sarah Apgar (Andover, N.J.) and Anthea Rathjens (Sudbury, MA) but the Knights answered immediately with a 15-2 run to take a 15-7 lead.

A 3-pointer by Ewing and a lay-up by Shannon Baker (Lynnbrook, N.Y.) cut the lead to three (15-12). The Lynx continue to roll as a 3-pointer from Dimou and two straight jumpers by Amato put the Express back ahead 19-15 while capping a 9-0 run.

The Knights battled back with four straight points to tie the game at 19-19 heading into the break.
Vermont Tech raced out to an early five point lead in the second half but the Express would climb back to within one (24-23) on two free throws by Rathjens. The Lynx would keep the deficit at single digits until mid-way through the second half when the Knights rattled off a 14-0 run with less than ten minutes to play--putting the game out of reach for the Lynx.

The Lynx finished 15-61 from the field and controlled the boards holding a 58-48 advantage on the glass. The Knights did not fair much better finishing 18-66 from the field including just 2-12 from beyond the arc.

Lesley returns to action tomorrow when they travel to take on Wheaton College at 2 pm in the opening game of the Cheryl Warren-Powers '95 Memorial Tournament hosted by Wheaton College in Norton, Mass.
