Women's basketball falls at Lasell, 63-41

NEWTON, MA -- Lesley sophomore Emily Fleming led all scorers with 16 points, but the Lynx dropped a 63-41 decision at Lasell in non-conference play on the Lasers Senior Night Monday evening.

Fleming shot 3-4 from three-point range, also leading all players with six assists and seven steals. Junior forward Chelsea Contre added seven points and five rebounds as the Lynx fell to 0-23.

A 7-2 Lesley run started by Fleming's first three-pointer and capped by another jumper from the Lynx point guard put Lesley up 11-8 with 15:31 left in the first half. Fleming did her best to keep the Lynx around in first, putting her team back on top at 13-12 with a pair of free throws and answered a pair of Justine Ryan triples with another three of her own, followed by a free throw that brought the Lynx to within one at 18-17.

As the Lasers defense clamped down, holding Lesley without a field goal for 5:13, the home team's offense picked up. A 14-2 Lasell run late in the first opened the Lasers lead up to 32-19, and Lasell went into halftime leading 34-23.

A stifling Lasers defense held the Lynx to 8-25 shooting (32 percent) for the first half and 25 percent shooting on the night, and Lasell never fell behind by more than 10 for the entire second half.

Ryan led the Lasers with 14 points off the bench, and Danielle Autencio added 11 points and a game-high 13 rebounds as Lasell outrebounded the Lynx 46-35 for the night.

Lesley returns to Cambridge for its home finale on Wednseday night at 8:00 when the Lynx play host to Wheelock College in NECC play. The game is Lesley's "Play 4Kay" game, as the team looks to raise breast cancer awareness and funds for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.
