Blazers, Parks overpower Lynx

CHICOPEE, MA -- Elms College took a 19-point halftime lead and earned a 65-27 win over the visiting Lynx Saturday

Emily Fleming led the Lynx with 10 points, all in the first half. Sophomore Sherrey Smitth added six points and five rebounds on 3-4 shooting, and freshman Carrie Fieger totaled six points and three boards.

Elms' Denisha Parks was unstoppable, scoring 34 points on 13-15 shooting and grabbing 14 rebounds. Fellow forward Erika Murphy also earned a double-double, totaling 14 points to go along with 11 boards.

Field goals from Fieger and Fleming saw the Lynx take an early 4-3 lead. Elms answered with five straight points, then a Fleming jumper made it an 8-6 game before the Blazers took off on a 10-2 run to go up 18-8.

Fieger came back with consecutive buckets to get within 18-12, but a 10-2 run spearheaded by eight points from forward Denisha Parks watched the Blazers double up to a 28-14 lead, forcing a Leah Lipschitz timeout at the 5:14 mark.

The rest of the half was all Elms, as the Blazers went into halftime leading 37-18 behind 20 points from Parks on 8-10 shooting from the floor and a 4-5 effort at the line.

Elms came out of halftime on a 10-0 run, with Parks again scoring eight of the 10, and led by 20 or more the rest of the way. Behind Parks' 34, the most scored by an opposing player this season, the Blazers cruised to a 65-27 win.

The Lynx return to play on Tuesday at 6:00 p.m. at Plymouth State. Live video coverage can be found here.
